I’m not an expert at installing flooring and I’m trying to save money on my new floors. I did some research online and found that floating floors is the best way to for a DIY’er like myself to install new flooring. Can I float hardwood floors?? I can’t seem to find any details about it.

Great question! You’re right that floating floors is one of the easiest ways to install new flooring. However, not all floors can be floated. Hardwood is one of those floors.
With hardwood floors, you can either install them using nails, staples, or glue. They cannot be floated above a subfloor. The only exception to this rule is engineered hardwood flooring.
Engineered hardwood flooring is part hardwood, part particle board. It’s this unique combination that makes them more versatile and much easier to install for DIY’ers like you. Here’s how they’re made:
The bottom layer is made using core board, plywood, and other high density materials. Then, a veneer of real hardwood is glued on top. It looks and feels like hardwood because the top layer (the one visible to you and your guests) is hardwood. However, the lower layer works as a support beam to strengthen the wood material and allow it to be installed with a tongue and groove method.
Many homeowners love the look of the engineered hardwood. Chances are you can find the exact color and type of hardwood you’re looking for in an engineered hardwood floor.
Maintenance is a breeze too. To clean engineered hardwood, you go by the same rules as you do for 100% hardwood flooring. Use a dry mop and broom for daily cleaning. For tougher spills, use a slightly damp mop.
These floors are tough, sturdy, and ideal for DIY installers.
