It’s starting to cool down outside. Leaves are beginning to change color. Pumpkin flavored everything will come back in season with a vengeance! All these signs can only mean one thing – it’s time to start thinking about your fall decorating. The great part about fall is all of the things you can do without spending a ton of money! Using elements of nature, these fall home hacks will give your rooms a gorgeous seasonal style.
Here are a few simple fall decorating ideas that will warm up your home without breaking the bank.
Decorate Pumpkins
This might sound like an obvious tip, but pumpkins (and other gourds) are the perfect way to bring fall into your home. You don’t have to go the traditional route and carve them (since that puts your pumpkins on immediate countdown until they wilt and go bad). You can even make a trip to the dollar store and pick up some fake ones! Here are a few ideas to decorate using pumpkins without cutting them:
- Paint them using acrylic or milk paint. You can do a solid color or designs and patterns (such as polka dots or argyle) to match your home’s current décor. Or you can get creative and do a fun design, such as your favorite sports team or your kids’ favorite superhero. We love this super chic DIY from Miss Mustard Seed.
- Attach adornments using a hot glue gun. This could include anything from beads to buttons to ribbon and can be done in a fun pattern and creates texture. Check out this adorable DIY Shabby Chic Pumpkin project from Honeybear Lane.
- Layer your family’s handprints on an off-white painted pumpkin using varying colors. We love this one from The Melrose Family.
Repurpose Your Existing Jars and Vases
A great fall home hack is to repurpose what you already have! Fill various jars and vases with fall items and colors. You can use pinecones or acorns with fall leaves or corn kernels with a candle resting on top and a raffia ribbon tied around the outside. You can also take it one step further by layering fall colors in vases by using dried corn kernels, red beans, split peas and lentils. You can also make a centerpiece pop by adding fall produce like this beautiful one by Shanty 2 Chic. Simple and affordable!
Another favorite is creating a DIY rustic and glowing fall candleholder. Using mod podge, glue faux autumn leaves in a random pattern on the outside of a mason jar. Finish off by tying a raffia bow around the top once dry. When you add the candle and light it, it gives off a lovely warm glow. Use these for years to come! Bring Fall Colors Inside
One surefire way to make your home cozy for fall is to bring the fall colors inside. You can switch out summer accent pillows and throws for ones in warm reds, golden yellows and muted greens. You can also change your hand towels and dishtowels for ones with fall foliage or other fall designs.
Switching out home essentials is a great way to introduce colors of the season without adding additional clutter! To cuts costs, you can collect these items over time by buying them on clearance at the end of each season.
