An Interior Design Project Nearing Completion

Family Room Overall with new window treatments, rug, built-ins, fireplace

I've shared a few images before of the makeover of this fireplace wall.

I published the before and after of the kitchen of this home HERE (very dramatic!); and then I talked about the way I redesigned the furr downs and cabinetry HERE, so that the tile material could return back to the wall and make the fireplace a more substantial impact in the room.

Well, we've gotten the grasscloth installed in the cabinet backs, :-) and installed the custom cut rug, the window treatments, and the two recliners.

It's looking so good that I just had to give you a bit of a preview. It may be another month before our sofa gets here; the fabric was backordered, and we all wanted to wait for it, as it was such a good choice and nothing really came close to the color and wearability that it provided.

Here's the before of the fireplace:

The homeowner was looking for a lighter, brighter, cooler-toned look, overall.

We found this great mini-Versailles patterned stone tile that created a lovely texture, and we featured it on the fireplace wall to create a statement. I love its overall gray color that works so well with our lighter, brighter scheme. We redid the cabinetry, mounted the tv, installed the wood floor throughout, and basically gave it a cooler-toned, more clean-lined look.

I'm a big fan of using carpet cut to fit for rooms where you need a big rug and may need a shape that doesn't come in a standard size. It can also make large rugs more affordable. We did an unusual cut in this home office, similar to what we did below.

In this room we wanted as much softness as possible for playing on the floor and extending the seating group into all four corners. We notched out the rug; it was actually cut and bound on site (with me standing over the installers :-) to make sure it worked perfectly with the layout of the fireplace.

I love these Lee recliners. So comfy.

Then our drapery was installed this week. It gives height and softens the room.

We also did some Roman shades in the breakfast room, with a fabulous fabric from Jeffrey Alan Marks, one of my fave celeb designers.

There's a wonderful living room that is almost done. After paint, a new fireplace surround, new drapery panels and some reupholstered items, it looks fab. But just wait till the sofa and new rug is installed...it will be amazing!

This homeowner is a real trendsetter, with her desire for blue-grays and shades of lavender and purple.

It will be a completely new look for this home, and we are so proud to have been part of this makeover.

Oh, and one last detail I can't help but share: the way our workroom form-fitted these cushions to our clients' existing chairs. This is what custom looks like…tailor made.
