DIY Christmas Decorations For Your Home

‘Tis the season for D-I-Y, Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la! For do-it-yourself lovers, nothing is more fun than creating your own Christmas decorations.

With such a fun, festive season, there is no shortage of ways you can incorporate Santa, reindeer, holly, mistletoe, Noel, greenery, and lights to your holiday décor. That’s why we’ve narrowed the list to five of our favorite DIY Christmas decorations that you can make yourself and then hang instantly with pride.

1. Stocking Hanger

If you don’t have a mantle piece to hang your stockings by, there is a solution! If you have some leftover laminate flooring, you can create a no-mantle stocking hanger easily! Simply follow this Re-purposed Laminate Flooring Coat Hanger tutorial by DIY Inspired and paint it Christmas themed colors! Your family and budget will love this thrifty DIY.

2. Snowman Doors

Turn your boring front door into a life-size snowman!

This is the perfect craft idea for the kids. Get some black and orange construction paper and cut out two large circles for the eyes, five medium circles for the mouth, and three medium circles for the buttons.

Then, find some candy cane striped wrapping paper (or any pattern you’d like) and cut two long, thin strips. These will be used for the scarf.

Tape your pieces to your door way and you’ll have your very own Frosty the Snowman inside, or outside!

3. Painted Wine Bottles

Wine bottles are easy and fun to paint! Better yet, you can come up with some fun designs to make them extra holiday-appropriate.

Start by painting a base layer on your bottle. This can be done using acrylic paint found at the craft store. Then dress up your bottles. Spell out the word “JOY” or “NOEL” to add holiday spirit. You can also paint your bottles like Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus, or a Reindeer if you want to be more playful.

When done, top your empty wine bottle with fake flowers or Christmas colored elements and you’ll have a beautiful, fun mantle display.

4. Outdoor Sign

You guessed it! There are even more decorations you can create with laminate flooring leftovers! You can use this Repurposed Laminate DIY Welcome Sign tutorial by DIY Inspired to get started. Take a plank and paint it white (or use a whitewashed laminate flooring plank). Then, paint the word “BELIEVE” or “MERRY CHRISTMAS” length wise down the plank. Put this outside by your front door to greet your guests as they arrive!

5. Christmas Wreathes

Christmas wreathes range in difficulty. Some are very difficult, while others are very easy.

For an easy wreathe, get a metal ring and some of your favorite ribbon. Cut the ribbon into two six inch long pieces and then tie them in bows around the metal ring. Keep doing that until your wreathe is filled with ribbons.

For a harder wreathe, you’ll need a Styrofoam circle, a hot glue gun, and plenty of ornaments. Spray paint the Styrofoam circle if necessary. Then, glue the ornaments onto the circle so that little to no Styrofoam shows through. Use various sizes of ornaments to make this work.
