Trend Alert: Driftwood in Home Decorating

When I was growing up, I lived in a lake community way out in the middle of the country. We decorated with a lot of natural accents, many of which we would pick up during our family walks. I specifically recall my Mom using accents of driftwood throughout our home, so it’s been fun watching the resurgence of driftwood in home decorating. And even though it’s becoming hugely popular, this decor accents has been around for a long time.  So today, I’ll show you that one doesn’t need to own a lake or beach house in order to enjoy this gorgeous home styling trend.

A more permanent statement can be made by incorporating beautiful, earthy driftwood as a focal point. Like this gorgeous mirror adorned with driftwood in the powder room:

You don’t always need to “go big or go home” when embracing a trend. Subtle accents will do just fine, and is often easier on your budget. If you love repurposing with natural accents, driftwood is a perfect answer.

Here is a tutorial that I did on my blog on how I achieved the effect on a repurposed table. Although there are many, many methods available on the web, so be sure to search around for what works best for you.

Do you love the resurgence of driftwood and grey tones found in home decor nowadays? How are you finding ways to eradicate brown tones? Are you painting existing furniture? Have you limited yourself by thinking that driftwood is reserved only for beach home decorating?
