You’ve all seen this design trend out there, what with all the images of everyone standing on intricately designed tile floors on Instagram.
Of course I’m speaking of…
Mosaic tile floors.
The great thing about this trend is...
It’s really a timeless feature, rooted in historical architecture. And it has a sound design principle behind it, most notably: scale.
In many of my projects lately, we’ve been doing these smaller scaled tiles on floors, as it adds so much interest in a small space, and it scales appropriately with the room size. When you have a space like this, it’s nice to load up on an expensive material somewhere, to add a sense of quality and make the space feel special and loved. Because it’s small, you can spend more per square foot on material and not feel like you’ve overspent.
