Anthony Baratta is a New York interior designer who claims to get his inspiration for his interior designs from fine artists, such as Matisse. He was born in New Jersey and graduated from Fordham University with a BA in Art History.
He and his partner opened the design firm Diamond Baratta Design in 1994. In 2002, they were selected as one of New York magazine’s Top 100 Architects & Decorators. There, their work was described as: “American traditional decorating is William Diamond and Anthony Baratta’s terrain, with every room steeped in color and pattern-on-pattern layers. Not for the pastel at heart, but a bold and unique point of view.” They also earned the Hue Award for lifetime achievement in design.
Together they wrote two design books, All American: The Exuberant Style of William Diamond and Anthony Baratta (2009) and Diamond Baratta Design (2006). In 2012, Diamond retired and Baratta continued the firm under the name Anthony Baratta LLC.
Baratta is known for his philanthropy. He is actively involved with the Ronald McDonald House, having design dollhouses for the House in the past and in 2013 was selected as the creative director for the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island Project Design. He’s also designed interiors for the American Red Cross and the Peabody Wellness Centre.
In 2013, Baratta opened his own shop in the Hamptons, located in Westhampton Beach area. His boutique is located in a small cottage on the Main Street of town and has an eclectic mix of furniture and decorative offerings, which gives a perfect look at the designer’s personality.

White floors brighten any boring space because they have an “uplifting quality”, especially in spaces with low ceilings.
Highlight your collectibles in interesting ways
He always tries to use his clients’ collectibles in interesting ways that spotlight them. For example, one of his clients collected model sailboats so he used those as his decorating inspiration and even used those to hang on the walls.
Start any design by picking out your palette first
Baratta says the trick to his skill in mixing patterns, bold colors, and motifs is that he decides on the color palette with the client up front and designs from there.
Art doesn’t have to be in a frame
When he has a space that is oddly shaped he often creates a focal point by having a vibrant and boldly colored mural painted as an accent wall. Since it is the focal point he keeps the rest of the design in simple with neutral colors.
