Mix This With That: Table Settings

Midweek greetings friends! Today in the States we honor our veterans and thank them for their service to our country, thank you men and women of our armed forces!

The family is still traveling, tomorrow we’re off to the South Island of New Zealand, our route has us landing in Christchurch then traveling to Queenstown over the next six days with plenty of exciting stops on the way.

‘Tis the season for setting a pretty table and between Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Year’s Eve we have so many opportunities to gather. I love a table where pieces are mixed, and the best way to accomplish it is to use the basic pieces you already have and add a few new layers to spice it up for the season, perhaps a new tablecloth or salad plate to change the scene.

I invited several bloggers known for their great taste to pull together a chic table setting in their signature style, take a look at the combinations they’ve come up with. I find all of them inspiring and love the mixture of texture and color, paired with a simple seasonal centerpiece, they are all wonderful.

We all know Eddie Ross, author of the book Modern Mix and master of pulling together an inspired setting. Eddie’s medley of modern and vintage is always a delight!

“Country meets shibori in a surprising mix of handmade modern elements that will take guests into the woods and beyond. A classic gaming pattern from Spode soars to stylish heights paired with an indigo dyed cloth and Suite One’s bread plates in a vivid turquoise. Folk art napkins pick up colors in the plates, lending a Navajo vibe. I paired casual cobalt tumblers from CB2 with modernist stemware from Crate + Barrel.”

Dana from House Tweaking has such a pretty modern home, no doubt she can set a beautiful table! I just love her laid back style, she’s pulled together a setting that would look boho chic any time of year!

“I love the idea of using a patterned kantha quilt as a tablecloth, plus double function as a throw!  You can’t go wrong with classic white dinner plates as a base for any table setting. Shake things up with a contrasting crackle gray salad plate, I love the organic texture and imperfections. Mason jars that are wrapped in leather sleeves are practical and special at the same time, they keep cold drinks cold and hot drinks hot!”

Michael from Inspired by Charm has amazing taste! When he’s not tantalizing us with one of his recipes, he’s inspiring us with his fabulous decorating and DIY projects.

“When it comes to decorating I love mixing styles and patterns. If you’ve seen my home, you’ll know this to be true. For this particular tablescape I began with a red buffalo check runner which is both classic and trendy. Natural woods look great with buffalo check so the acacia dinner plates were a perfect choice. To incorporate a touch of bling, I added a gold gilded dessert plate and glassware with an ornate stem. A perfect holiday mix.”

Rhoda from Southern Hospitality is a long time friend and always an inspiration! Rhoda’s blog is a wonderful read and I adore the southern flair she brings to each space she decorates!

“Setting a beautiful table is so special, so for those holiday meals I enjoy my everyday Mikasa Italian Countryside dishes, mixed with the etched iced beverage Mikasa glasses to set the tone.  Choosing a complimentary salad plate like the Pier One Asheville with its bright Fall leaves adds a happy accent to the mix and the beautiful striped table runner brings in the colors of Fall so well for a subdued background to the entire table.”

Known for her impeccable taste and love of pink, we all know Ms. Making It Lovely, Nicole Balch. Today’s she’s pulled together a table setting for any season combining pale pink and indigo, one of my most favorite color combinations too.

“I was in need of new, everyday dishes a while back, and I went with pink. Best decision ever! In spring and summer, I like to pair the dishes with lighter, brighter colors, but for fall and winter, pale pink mixes with deeper shades like the aubergine of these glasses, and it looks great against darker colors like the navy of this tablecloth.”

Aren’t they all fabulous? I just love each beautiful combination. Thank you so much Eddie, Dana, Michael, Rhoda, and Nicole for “setting” such beautiful holiday tables!

I’ll be featuring another round of ‘Mix This With That’ next week with more of your favorite bloggers, stay tuned!
