As autumn sets in the temperatures drop, the leaves change, and the holidays approach at rapid speed! Now is the perfect time to get out your Thanksgiving decor and start getting in the festive spirit.
Here are some fun ideas for how to decorate your home in time for Thanksgiving:
Give Thanks
Since the true meaning of Thanksgiving is giving thanks, bring it to life in your home. Here are several ways you can incorporate thankful reminders into your decor:
- Try your hand at a decorative board that shows off why you’re thankful! Below is a DIY Rope Project from Prodigal Pieces.
- Make a cloth or burlap banner to hang from your mantel saying “Give Thanks”.
- Use a framed chalkboard to write an inspirational quote or prayer to in honor of the holiday.
The Dinner Table
Since Thanksgiving centers around sharing a delicious meal with loved ones, what better way to prepare for it than decorating the table!
Start with a festive table runner. Buy one with pops of fall colors or make one yourself. To DIY, take a long piece of burlap and stencil Thanksgiving themed words or pictures on it. To make it fun, you could use butcher-block paper as a runner and let your loved ones write what they’re thankful for throughout the day.
Next, create a centerpiece or two for the table. Here are a few centerpiece ideas to get you started:
- Make a flower arrangement by filling a vase with cranberries and water and topping it with hydrangeas or other flowers or greenery of your choice.
- Create decorative candles by wrapping a pillar candle with cinnamon sticks and securing with twine or raffia.
- Use pinecones and various sized pumpkins and gourds. You can place them around at random, put them in a vase or bowl, or use them for place-seating assignments by affixing a name to each.

Indoors and Out
With the changing of the seasons comes the crisp cold air. Now is the perfect time to make your home cozy by bringing out your favorite throw blankets. When not in use they can be stored in a decorative crate or basket or draped across the back of the couch. Additionally, swap out your throw pillows for ones in fall colors.
Once the inside of your home is taken care of, you can decorate your porch as well. Use fall colors and leaves to create a wreath for your front door, decorate a bench with fall pillows and plants, and place pumpkins here and there to tie it all together.
