Hello and welcome to another week! I paid a visit to my brother’s house over the weekend and photographed his kitchen remodel (see the “before” here) and I’m so excited to share the new look, you’ll love all the finishing touches, and you can catch a sneak peek on Instagram.
Instead of a design related post today, I was invited by my blog friend Chris of Just A Girl to share what’s in my tool bag today, not the home improvement one (years ago I posted my 25 essential DIY tools). No instead today’s kit includes makeup, so today’s post is a little diversion from regular content but fun to talk about for us ladies.
I have some go to products I’ve been using for years and would be devastated if they were discontinued. It’s so hard to find the perfect thing for but once I do I keep going back!
I’m not into wearing a lot of makeup, it doesn’t work for me, and I can’t get into trends like contouring or Kylie’s lips, I stick with what works and what I found enhances my skin and features. My skin is between fair and medium tone, I have a French, Italian, and (of course) Irish heritage. These are the cosmetic products that work best for me!
I found a Trina Turk cosmetic bag on a visit to the Hotel del Coronado a few years ago and I’ve used it ever since, sadly it’s not available. My favorites are a mix of high and low, I like several of the Too Faced and Benefit products as well as Maybelline and Cover Girl!
For Skin and Cheeks:
Too Faced Skin Primer. I love this product with vitamins and Retinol, it matches my skin tone perfectly and often I’ll just wear this with nothing else, it’s great for making skin look and feel hydrated and youthful.
Too Faced Beauty Balm. This is a sheer tinted moisturizer that makes skin glow, I use the ‘Vanilla Glow’, it also has 20 SPF protection (I also use a 50 SPF for face every day underneath).
Benefit Play Stick. I’ve used this product for 5+ years it applies a small amount of foundation in spots where I need it.
Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick. For just a touch of sunshine, this bronzer goes under cheekbones and on the forehead for little glow.
Ulta Lip & Cheek Stick. This is a budget friendly blush that goes on easily and last forever, and only $5 bucks if you buy two.
Too Faced Powder. I’ve never been a big fan of powder since they make me feel like my skin can’t breathe, but this one is light and translucent so it’s one I do like to use to reduce shine.
For Eyes:
Benefit Bad Gal Lash. I’ve tried every mascara and this one works best, I like the brush mostly and that the formula doesn’t get clumpy.
Too Faced Shadow Insurance. This primer is a champagne color that looks pretty all alone but works great as a base for more dramatic eyes too. It also multitasks as a highlighter on cheekbones.
Maybelline Nudes Eye Shadow This is a nice mix of matte and shimmer powders I can use from day to night and the neutral hues highlight my hazel eyes.
Cover Girl Brow & Eye. I discovered this pencil in college (when I couldn’t afford expensive products anyway) and it’s always been the best formula for me even though I’ve tried more expensive brands so I keep using it!
For lips I like to use thick cream pencils and Burt’s Bees glosses (seen in the top photo).
So that’s what’s inside my bag ladies, feel free to share your go-to products you swear by in the comments ! Oh, and I shared some of my favorite skincare products last year.
