Plaid is still big in design but buffalo check having a moment right now, have you noticed? My favorite button down shirt in college was buffalo check and I hadn’t worn the print for years but then I spied a cute shirt online a few months ago, ordered it, and now it’s a favorite that I constantly wear.
Buffalo check is a pattern made up of large scale equal sized horizontal squares, it can be single or multiple color, typically black or white or both appear as a square. In small scale, the print is often referred to as gingham. Buffalo check is a larger scale version of gingham and it dates back to the 1800s, originating in outdoor menswear. Classic versions of the pattern have crisp angular lines but in the newer editions, the lines are blurred and imperfect.
The pattern is especially festive this time of year, the classic print lends a cozy feel in all its forms: linens for everyday decor or holiday trimmings.
