Sad News + Big Changes

I've lost track of the amount of times I've started to write this post. Everything is still a bit of a blur, there's a lot of uncertainty and we don't really know exactly what's going to happen but we're moving! And when I say we're moving I really do mean we're moving as we're packing...

New Summer Fabrics

For these new prints I found inspiration in my recent trip to Fiji and Australia, by the tropical climate and the colors of summer. Exotic flowers, vivid sunsets, beautiful beaches! In those vistas I observe such beautiful colors and want to recreate them in textile form.

I ran out of time to pull together a lookbook this season since I'm boarding a plane for Paris today (bon voyage!) so I'm sharing some styled images here. In addition to the Go With The Flow print introduced yesterday, I'm excited to introduce these new patterns to you!

I had a lot of fun designing these new prints in a variety of complementary colorways that you can mix together.

Hibiscus is available in two colors, Apricot and Blue. It's a brushstroke version of the exotic flower with floating leaves in the background.

I do so love this Shibee print (my shibori wannabe) in a gorgeous navy blue, I colorized it to give it a watercolor effect, it's so pretty as as curtains or a tablecloth.

I also love this Inked pattern, the dots mimic ink blots! It's available in eight different colors to play with as fabric or wallpaper.

Kelp is a smaller scale repeat inspired by time spent in the ocean, it's available in five different colors.

Its sister fabric is Kelp Ombre which gets its look from watercolor brushes and is really pretty up close, also available as wallpaper and fabric. The blue one reminds me a little of a peacock feather.

Glassy was inspired by mid century modern glass windows, and also cement block patterns, this fabric is available in three colors.

Yay, a colorful new collection!

An Easy, Beach-Inspired, DIY Summer Tabletop!

I'm part of the At Home Inspiration Team ;-)

Last week I shared how I was getting my July 4th tablescape game on. You can check it out HERE.

Well, in case you're not yet done entertaining for the summer (hopefully you're not), then I have another summer tabletop for you today that is beach-inspired. It employs the color scheme of sand and sea or, rather, a soft turquoise blue with neutral textures and whites.

At the center of this table is my collection of antique glass floats (that was the springboard for the color scheme).

Next, I pulled out some cloth napkins in a tiny stripe that I've had for years. And the rest was filled out by our local At Home store in The Woodlands. I'm sharing links below.

The large white bowl was just perfect for visually framing my floats. It was large, and the white is the best backdrop for blown glass objects. It enables you to appreciate their translucency and color. I love the big rim as it anchors the tabletop and sets the centerpiece off from the table perfectly in contrast and height.

I got the rope round placemats from At Home, as well (although, they aren't online). The plates are from the same collection of white dinnerware as the center bowl. I love that you can buy just a few at a time with this collection. Glasses, flatware, and even the little starfish are all from At Home.

The mugs add a little pattern to the mix, as do the glass vases. I also discovered, after using my new table and chairs for a little while here, that it would be nice to have a cushion in the back of these chairs. So I added these turquoise down pillows with a neutral linen flange. They are just the right color match, and I'm loving the boxed style of these with the mini-flange. You'll have to shop in the store for those as they also aren't available online.

I think we've got the feel of the beach here in my suburban setting.

And with my pool and beautiful backyard for the view, I'm on semi-vacation right here. :-)

DIY Summer Tote

Happy summer friends! This week I'm sharing some new fabrics I designed, the first is this happy pattern I call 'Go With The Flow', it's a medley of brushstrokes that playfully flow along a white background. The pattern comes in three different colorways (see below) and with this coral and berry combo I made a small lined tote summer tote and also added grommet detail and rope straps.

This bag is fully lined and I made it with the 1 yard of the sturdy Heavy Cotton Twill. To recreate it you'll need one yard of the same or two pieces of 30 x 19” wide twill or canvas fabric, a grommet kit and 2 yards of nylon rope (both from Home Depot).

 tote supplies

Step One, turn the two pieces of 30 x 19” fabric inside out and sew them together like you would a pillow cover, leaving 4 to 5” opening on the side.

 sew fabric inside out

 sew inside out leave opening

Flip the fabric right side out, it should look like a pillow sham.

Step Two, fold it over once more so the shorter 19” sides come together. (In the picture below the fabric is folded over then rotated 90 degrees on the table for the photo.)

 fold over again

Sew three sides together (the 19” sides and one of the 15” sides) leaving an opening for the tote on the fourth side.

Step Three, flip your tote base inside out to hide the seam inside. Cut small holes where you want the grommets to go and use the kit to secure them to the top of the tote.

You're almost done! Now simply cut the nylon rope and knot the ends once you've run them through the grommet. If you melt the edges ever so slightly with a lighter or finish off the ends with hot glue the rope won't fray.

So there you have it, a cute little summer tote bag to take along with you to the pool or beach!

This 'Go With The Flow' fabric is available in three fun colorways: Coral, Navy, and Aqua. Also available as wallpaper and gift wrap, find all three in my Spoonflower Shop!

Trending Now – White High Gloss Flooring

The modern trend is on the rise, and more lofts, salons, fitness studios and cafes are adding modern touches to their spaces. Clean lines, bright whites and unique furniture are common in creating this signature style. One of the hottest trends we're seeing this year is the obsession with white high gloss flooring. These floors instantly transform your space into a modern sanctuary.

Our Elesgo High Gloss White Laminate flooring, imported from Germany, has been creating trendy, beautiful customer spaces since we introduced it. You will find glossy tile flooring in many modern spaces, but tile floors are cold and hard. This laminate will replicate the temperature in the room as well as be lighter on foot. The Elesgo floors also include a sound reducing technology that is 10dB quieter when walked on compared to other flooring.

Let's dive into some of our favorite rooms using Elesgo white high gloss flooring.

Elesgo Super Gloss Arctic White

This pure white, high gloss look creates a sleek look in this New York apartment. Complemented with dramatic lighting and art work, this space is modern perfection.

This is a pure white floor that instantly brightens any space. A rolled bevel edge creates definition without being overbearing.

Here's another look at a modern apartment penthouse with tons of natural light. Notice how the floor reflects it's surroundings!

Elesgo Super Gloss White

The Elesgo Super Gloss White is very similar to the Arctic White, but it is not as bright of a white. You can see from the photos below the slight difference in color. We recommend requesting a free sample of any high gloss flooring to see how it looks in your home with your lighting and decor.

Here's a zen bedroom from Miami, complete with orchids, custom furniture and Buddha art. Elesgo Super Gloss White gives instant simplicity to the space.

Another beautiful space from Miami features this Elesgo laminate with incredible views! Isn't this just amazing? From Miami to LA, this floor is the perfect choice for a modern beach house or condo.

Mix & Match

You can even mix and match the other Elesgo colors for an amazingly chic look. The Bombshell Brow Salon in New Jersey used the Elesgo Arctic White laminate with the Elesgo Super Gloss Black laminate. They have the same locking system, so you can mix and match the styles for an eye-catching look.
